We rang in 2020 just the four of us playing games, laughing and enjoying time together. We are grateful for God’s gift of peace as we moved through the holiday season. In November, we started the process of updating our I800A immigration status. This was our 3rd time to file for this status, but the first approval to bring home up to two children. While this is a “routine” process there are never guarantees so we praise God for the approval of our update. We received our official approval letter this weekend! This means that we are set on paperwork until around May when we will once again start the process to update our home study. Even if we are matched soon, our home study must be current until we are in country. We know that means we have at least one more update. With great anticipation, we awaited a matching meeting to happen in December. We officially learned last week that there was not a meeting in December. The country of Burundi was struggling with severe flooding just before Christmas. It’s sometimes hard to get information, but what we know is that lives were lost, people were hurt, and homes were destroyed. Please join us in continued prayer for Burundi as they continue to clean up and rebuild after these floods. Here is some information on the flooding: “According to Burundi Red Cross, torrential rains and strong winds caused human and material damage in Bujumbura and surrounding areas on the night of 21 December, 2019. As of 22 December the provisional damage assessment was 14 fatalities and 33 injured. Around 50 houses were completely destroyed and 40 others severely damaged. Over 130 other homes were flooded and in total around 1,200 people (219 households) were affected.
Burundi Red Cross said heavy rain caused the Cari river to break its banks in the Winterekwa and Nyabagere districts in northern Bujumbura. Houses were inundated and some of them collapsed, causing fatalities. Others died after they were swept away by the raging flood water. Parts of Carama district were also affected. Burundi Red Cross, in collaboration with civil protection and the local residents are carrying out searches for missing people.” -25 December, 2019 by FloodList News in Africa, News The gentleman who holds the office of Central African Authority has the task of managing all humanitarian needs of his country. He has a big heart for adoption, but he has an enormous job. I believe as soon as he is able, he will get the necessary team together to hold a matching committee meeting. Please join us as we pray for the government of Burundi. Our agency shared with us that despite all that was going on it appeared the courts seemed to continue to meet during the holiday season. Their understanding was that they were continuing to complete adoptability files for children and the hope is that when the matching committee is able to meet again they will have many children’s files to match with families. Join us in praying:
God is continuing to move and do great things in the Burundi adoption program. As we head into the year 2020 our vision for our family is the same as it always has been; to follow God where He leads. We can see clearly He is moving. We still can’t see the end picture, but we are content to know He can. We feel so grateful to be a part of this journey. Thank you again for all of your prayers, support and the part you play in our journey.
